Coontie Palm is native evergreen shrub with a low mounding habit and glossy green foliage that looks between a trunkless palm and fern.  Grows best with part sun and consistently moist well-drained sandy soils.  Extremely drought tolerant.  Most parts of Coontie palm is highly toxic if ingested.

Zamia integrifolia is a host plant for the Echo Moth and the endangered Atala Butterfly.
