Pineapple Pear is a fast-growing deciduous tree with an attractive spring flower display but primarily grown for its large crop of late summer fruit.  Clusters of fragrant of creamy white spring flowers attract butterflies before the foliage emerges The large russet yellow fruits with a red blush have melting creamy flesh that has a sweet tart taste similar to pineapple.  Grows best in full sun and rich, moist well-drained soils. Pineapple is self-pollinating, and has a very low chill requirement of 150 hours.
